πŸ”️ Mount Rinjani Climbing Experience 3 Days 2 Nights with a Professional Guide

Mount Rinjani, at 3,726 meters above sea level, is the crowning glory of Lombok Island. Every year, thousands of climbers from around the world come to conquer its summit. However, its challenging trails make the presence of a professional guide invaluable.

I had the opportunity to climb Rinjani for 3 days and 2 nights with an experienced guide, and it was an unforgettable experience.

Day 1: Journey from Sembalun to Pelawangan

We began our hike from Sembalun Village, one of the official routes to Rinjani. The village atmosphere was still cool, with expanses of green rice paddies. My guide had prepared a short briefing: the route to be taken, rest stops, and tips for conserving energy.

After entering the savanna trail, I was amazed by the vast, golden-green carpet of grass. My guide reminded me to walk at a steady pace. At each checkpoint, he made sure I had enough water and energy snacks.

Towards evening, we arrived at Pelawangan Sembalun (2,639 meters above sea level). From here, the view of Lake Segara Anak and Mount Baru Jari was clearly visible. The guide and porter quickly set up the tent and prepared dinner. That night, I slept peacefully, surrounded by the stars.

Day 2: To the Summit & Descend to Segara Anak

At 2 a.m., we began our journey to the summit. The steep sandy path made every step difficult. Our guide kept encouraging us:

> “Don't think thousands of meters ahead, just think ten steps ahead.”

Around 6 a.m., I finally stood at the summit of Rinjani (3,726 meters above sea level). The sun rose slowly from the east, revealing views of Lombok Island, and even Bali and Sumbawa in the distance.

After enjoying the summit, we returned to Pelawangan for breakfast and then descended to Segara Anak (2,000 meters above sea level). The journey was quite challenging, with a rocky and descending path.

But all the fatigue was rewarded when we arrived at the lake. The water was a calm blue, surrounded by majestic cliffs.

Our guide explained that Segara Anak is considered sacred by the people of Lombok and is often used for traditional rituals. We had lunch by the lake and even fished for a bit of tilapia. We spent the second night on the banks of Segara Anak.

Day 3: Returning via the Senaru Trail

On our final day, we continued our journey up to Pelawangan Senaru and then down to Senaru Village. The trail was filled with dense tropical forest, with fresh air and birdsong.

After 6–7 hours of walking, we finally arrived at the Senaru exit. Our guide ensured our safe return and even helped arrange transportation back to our accommodation. I felt this journey wasn't just about conquering the mountain, but also about learning to appreciate nature and ourselves.
